A study in the United States looked at gender differences in more than 2,400 gamers playing EverQuest II. The participants, who were recruited directly out of the game, completed a web-based questionnaire about their gaming habits and lifestyles. They received an in-game item as a reward for taking part - a condition which has led to some questioning of the results.

In addition Sony Online Entertainment, Everquest's creator, gave the US researchers access to information about the players' in-game behaviours. Lead researcher Scott Caplan of the University of Delaware said the result showed that, although more of the players were male, it was the female players who were the most dedicated players, spending more time each day playing the game than their male counterparts.
The pressure to conform to traditional gender roles might mean that some women are put off activities seen as "masculine", whereas women who reject traditional gender roles might be more likely to play MMOs such as EverQuest II. Perhaps in support of this the survey revealed an unusually high level of bisexual girls who took part in the study - over five times higher than the proportion of bisexual girls in the general population.
Dmitri Williams, a researcher at the University of Southern California and a co-author on the study, said the study also found that men and women played computer games for different reasons, with men more likely to play to win and women more likely to play for social reasons.
Furthermore, a high proportion of women reported playing the game with their romantic partner, supporting the idea that game playing is becoming an increasingly sociable activity. The researchers say that this trend is reflected in patterns of general computer and internet use.

Arkanoid DS
The arcade game Darkanoid, released in 2003, was an improved clone of the classic Arkanoid games. It had better graphics, music, and sounds, all set in a 3D environment. Which was great considering that the game is playable on the PC, and is just about bouncing a ball against blocks to break them up and clear the board! Now Arkanoid comes in a still newer form to the Nintendo DS.
Arkanoid DS has many more features:
Over 140 levels to complete in Clear Mode, Quest mode adds extra challenge with different rules for each level.
Customize your game by exchanging points earned for new design features such as new backgrounds, Vaus vessels, blocks and sound effects.
Power-up items carefully selected from the ARKANOID series plus exciting new Power-up items: Barriers, Warp and Vanish.
Compete against friends with 2 and 4-player DS Wireless Communications.
Share the multiplayer fun from a single cart with DS Download Play.
High-Score table supported by Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection.

Mushroom Men Spore Wars

Developed by Red Fly Studios, Mushroom Men - Spore Wars, was released on 4 December by the Gamecock Media Group. Mushroom Men is a unique action game where you fight mutated rabbits, spiders and the like with a huge array of weapons and special abilities at your disposal. Use the Wii-mote or the Nintendo stylus to slash and shoot your way through a horde of household pests. And all the time you are in the shoes of a mushroom figure!
Mushroom Men - Spore Wars review
At this year’s Penny Arcade Expo, GameZone was on hand to try out the game and check its progress, and the results showcased a solid platformer with some really interesting elements. In the demo build of Mushroom Men, we had to navigate through a large world complete with environmental objects like a huge motorcycle and various mundane objects made large by our character’s tiny stature. However, while our avatar was tiny, he still packed a punch, beating his foes with a variety of weapons, from bashing weapons and stabbing weapons to a few special ones, like a mock lightsaber.
Aside from the weapons, you’ll also have some special items at your disposal, including a sticky hand that lets you grapple up to higher surfaces and a special kind of telekinesis, called Sporekinesis, where you can point the Wii-mote and manipulate certain objects in the environment. This helps when taking out the giant mutant rabbits, as you can solve an easy environmental puzzles by moving items around and using them against the rabbits.
Graphically, Mushroom Men: Spore Wars is a pretty good looking Wii title, with some impressive character models and detailed environments to explore. The art design is a bit on the weird side as you could expect, and creates an excellent sense of atmosphere. On the music side of things, Mushroom Men will feature a few songs by Les Claypool, lending an extra bit of oddness to the game.
The Spore Wars game should not be confused with Spores, the Mila Kunis game.

Mario Golf
Mario is a versatile gaming character; from the original 1985 classic Super Mario Brothers we've had Mario at the Olympics, and Super Mario Galaxy by Nintendo. Mario has also appeared in many sports series; the Mario Golf game was made for Nintendo 64 in 1999 and has now been made available for the Wii on Virtual Console.
Gamezone
Mario takes a well-deserved break from his role as the Mushroom Kingdom's busiest hero and returns to the links for some world-class golfing action. Since no one likes to hit the fairways alone, he's brought along a group of friends-both familiar characters and brand new ones. Choose from 10 different modes of play and six 18-hole courses in a variety of environments for a golfing experience with endless replay value. Add in fun, colorful graphics with a Mario touch (a Boo indicates wind direction), intuitive controls, incredibly deep game play and multiplayer support (taunt your opponents), and you have a game anyone will enjoy-even if you've never played a round of golf.
